Westdene’s elderly treated to a Christmas lunch

WESTDENE – Eufees Old Age Home residents kick their December off with an early festive season treat.

Residents of the Eufees Old Age Home were treated to a delicious early Christmas lunch.

It was made possible by Kindness Like Confetti (KLC), Ladies on a Mission, Chop it Like it’s Hot and generous community donors.

Throughout November, donations were collected for the Christmas lunch, which included both non-perishable food as well as gifts for the elderly. The lunch was enjoyed in the hall on 3 December.

Before the event, KLC created a reverse advent calendar and gave donors an indication of which items should be donated on a specific day. They started the calendar off with soft sweets and ended off with oats.

In a previous interview, KLC founder, Alyson Samson said they aimed at giving Eufees residents their own Christmas packages, which would see them through the festive season so that they could make their own meals and enjoy them with their loved ones.

KLC and Ladies on a Mission run a weekly feeding scheme at the home every Tuesday. Samson said it also gives Ladies on a Mission a chance to spend time cooking for their families during the festive season.

In addition to collecting goodies for the Christmas packages, cooks, ingredients and entertainment for the lunch were sourced to make the day one to remember.

John, John and Jenny took care of entertainment during the lunch and wowed residents with their voices and guitars. “The old folks even got up to dance!” Samson said.

Thanks to generous donors including those who donated their time, Eufees residents had a lunch, afternoon tea, recieved a food hamper, a Christmas package, a sweet packet and a gift-wrapped chocolate to take home.

“What a wonderful day! Thank you so much to the wonderful people who gave so much in order to make today possible – time, food, cooking skills, donations etc,” Samson said.
