Councillor thanks Ratepayers Associations for their support

JOBURG – Ward 69 councillor, Genevieve Sherman, talks about how 2017 went in her ward.

Ward 69 councillor, Genevieve Sherman, shared with Northcliff Melville Times her 2017 highs and lows and wished her residents a fantastic festive season.

Sherman explained that her biggest achievements include the additional electricity supply to the Coronationville residents in Harmony Street as well as surrounding streets.

“The residents experienced power outages almost every day – this was in the middle of winter with some very cold rainy days,” she said.

The power outages were as a result of illegal connections from an adjacent informal settlement. She said the additional supply took days of negotiations between all relevant parties.

In addition to the Coronationville success, Sherman mentioned that she managed to forge strong relationships with all resident’s associations from all across her ward during the past year.

“I would also like to thank the ratepayer associations for all their valuable support and interventions, especially when I am unavailable to attend to certain critical matters. Here I would particularly like to thank the Westdene Sophiatown Residents Association,” Sherman said.

She explained that serving the community is a collective effort which makes residents associations, as well as other community-based organisations, extremely important.

On the other side of her successes, Sherman noted crime as the biggest problem in her ward.

With 2017 almost behind her, Sherman said her plan for 2018 is to serve Ward 69 residents to the best of her ability and successfully at that.

“To all residents of Ward 69, my sincerest wish for you during this festive season [is] good health, safety and a very prosperous 2018,” she said.
