A non-profit organisation believes in the importance of the wellbeing of pets in their community, through helping less fortunate pet owners.
Animal Welfare founder, Riaan Greeff said his initial aim was assisting pensioners with affordable food for their pets for a year and was officially formalised in March this year.
He then identified a need for sterilization, which most elderly citizens cannot afford with their pension.
Through their Buddies4Ever campaign, the organisation targets different communities with outreach programmes.
“We approached vets and non-profit animal organisations such as anti-cruelty league, which led to us getting contracts to sterilize pets at low rates. This led to also de-worming them, doing dog walks and now we host outreaches at shopping centres. We target areas such as Newlands, Westbury, Melville, Westdene and up to Albertsville,” said Greeff.
His inspiration stems from owning eight dogs at a certain point in his life and realising the high cost of taking care of pets. He embarked on a journey of helping others, which led to the formation of his organisation.
The pet lover added they focus on people who seek assistance with their pets in spite of their background or age.
Through their organisation, they will host the Buddies4Ever outreach on 18 December at the Northcliff Piazza.
“We will be offering rabies vaccinations, deworming, vaccinations and health check-ups. Our focus is on welfare clients earning less than R4 500 but is also open to anyone at a minimal price of R20 to R30 depending on the service.”
