Raising awareness on Wildlife Conservation Day

What do black rhinos, Malayan tigers and mountain gorillas have in common?

Sadly, they are all listed on the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) critically endangered list.

Awareness of these and other endangered species, as well as the promotion of wildlife conservation, is brought to the hearts and minds of all citizens on 4 December and is spread across the globe thanks to wildlife organisations such as WWF.

There are currently 19 species on the critically endangered list and the number will keep rising if efforts are not made to stop their extinction.

There are criminal networks which trade illegally in animal parts and byproducts. There is a highly lucrative black market for these, so lucrative that they are rivals to the markets for arms and drugs.

WWF stated that the wildlife traffickers are the same kingpins involved in human trafficking and illegal arms and narcotics trade.

These are some of the endangered animals species that could face extinction soon if nothing is done:
