The national Department of Health has distributed free condoms as part of the national HIV prevention and sexual and reproductive health programme.
Using condoms when having sex is one of many ways to prevent sexually transmitted infections and diseases.
Last year, the Department of Health rebranded their Choice condom in an effort to be more appealing. Now called Max, the condoms were rebranded and designed to appeal to the sexually active youth and encourage them to practice safe sex. The new condoms introduced were strawberry, grape, banana and original.
Answering questions in the National Assembly last year, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said the government’s response to the HIV/Aids strategy was being scaled up, particularly on the prevention side.
“The Max condom is in response to what a number of people were saying.
“They were saying the other condom that had been introduced by the government did not smell so well and it made a noise whenever it was used.”
