MTN has released a statement regarding why many users are unable to make calls or access their data.
According to the telecoms giant, the problem is due to an unsuccessful systems upgrade which resulted in the data fault currently affecting users in Randburg and Cape Town.
1/2: MTN undertook an upgrade on a section of its network last night. The upgrade was unfortunately unsuccessful and has resulted in a data fault on the network serving Randburg and parts of Cape Town. Only the data service is affected, voice systems remain fully functional.

2/2: Parts of Randburg are already up and running. Happy to say that our data services should to be fully restored before 9am. We do apologize to our affected customers for this inconvenience. Getting the data service back up and running is our absolute priority this morning.

They have faced anger from their users with many tweeting them about the latest technically glitch.
Thanks for the feedback…but perhaps some communication prior to the upgrades and a note of potential disruptions may help, it's frustrating to wake up and find data not working and we have no idea why not..
