Brixton police officer says goodbye after 22 years

BRIXTON – A Brixton Police Station officer went from warrant officer to captain.

A Brixton Police Station officer has been climbing the ranks and went from warrant officer to captain.

Captain Rassie Smal, who was previously a warrant officer and sector manager for the Melville area, has been promoted to captain and will be transferring to the Moffatview Police Station in the South of Johannesburg.

Smal has been the Melville sector manager for the last 10 years but has been at the station for 22 years.

He started out at the Brixton Police Station in 1995 as a constable and worked his way up from performing duties in the client service centre, crime prevention, detectives and later became a sector manager.

“He worked very closely with the community and councillors and he [made] a huge impact in the fight against crime in the Melville sector,” said Jeanette Backhoff, spokesperson for the Brixton police.

Backhoff said Smal will be an asset to his new station. She said the Brixton Police Station management salutes him for his hard work, commitment and sacrifices over the many years he has worked at the station.
