Full-time master’s student at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), community engagement volunteer at UJ and mentor has recently been crowned Mrs Africa first princess and Mrs Africa Tourism Earth 2018.
Diana Robertson-Tsotetsi was crowned first princess in this year’s Mrs Africa pageant. Robertson-Tsotetsi expressed, “Several months ago I embarked on a journey to reinvent myself. Never did I think it would move, inspire and challenge me in the ways that it did.”
She said that being a finalist for this year’s Mrs Africa was the best thing that has ever happened to her. She added that this journey has allowed her to actively participate in changing people’s lives.
In the run-up to her crowning, she attended over 50 charity events and others that advocated arts, education, feminism, and events against gender-based violence.
Robertson-Tsotetsi was a teacher at Eldorado Park Primary School but decided to take a year off to complete her master’s degree in education (MEd) at UJ.
She didn’t abandon her commitment to the primary school as she started a mentorship programme which is designed for young girls to believe in themselves and to achieve the big dreams they have for themselves. She said,”I want these girls to know they can go beyond the borders of Eldorado Park.”
The Mrs Africa pageant gave her the chance to do this and she feels it would only be fair to pass this on to the younger generation. She also hopes she has inspired other women, married or single, to never give up on their dreams regardless of their circumstances.
Robertson-Tsotetsi is more than pleased with her success as a runner-up for Mrs Africa as she was also crowned Mrs Africa Tourism Earth.
She will be competing in the international event next year. This was her first pageant and she hopes her story as inspired people to believe that nothing is impossible.
She stated, “I can not say that anything that I achieved was through my own strength but through God, as God is gracious and merciful and unto Him all praise is due.”
She gives praise to her mother who she believes is watching down on her from heaven. She also thanked her family, colleagues, friends and everyone involved in her journey to being crowned Mrs Africa first princess and Mrs Africa Tourism Earth 2018.
