Shrek brought to life at People’s Theatre

MELVILLE – Orban Private Primary School youngsters live out their dreams onstage.

Two youngsters from Orban Private Primary School got the opportunity of a lifetime when they were asked to be part of the Shrek production showing at the People’s Theatre.

Simonne van der Vyver and Caitlyn Scholtz were selected to part of an amazing cast. Both actresses will play Little Red Riding Hood in the production during separate performances.

Scholtz, who resides in Northcliff, said she loves portraying different characters, acting and learning more about the role.

“In the production, Little Red Riding Hood is kicked out of the city of Duloc and is dumped in the swamp along with other fairy tale creatures. Our classmates and parents are excited to also come see us perform,” said Scholtz.

Van der Vyver said she has been acting in school plays since she was in pre-primary school.

The Melville resident enjoys working with the cast in Shrek and performing in her costume.

Van der Vyver said, “We are separated into two different casts who perform on different days. I think it’s a nice family production and it’s very funny which I think people will enjoy. There’s also a valuable lesson of not always judging a book by it’s cover.”

The production will be onstage from 30 October until 24 December at the Braamfontein precinct.
