Open day for a good cause at Gem Homes

ROOSEVELT PARK – The public is invited to attend GEM Homes for Senior Citizens' open day.

Gem Homes for Senior Citizens will be hosting an open day on 14 October which is open to both residents and the public.

Gem Homes publicity consultant Katherine Kruger said the open day is a new venture which they would like to host on a monthly basis. A workshop, titled ‘How to stop being hurt’ is open to the public as well.

The day, which will be the first of its kind, starts at 9am with the workshop, which will be presented by Kruger, who is an authour and motivational speaker.

This workshop is about improving your quality of life with practical tools people can apply in different parts of their life.

“Changes in the brain can be seen on the surface, [which can] be disastrous and represent permanent hurt. The truth is these alterations can be reversed. Trauma, failure, disappointment, loss and bad luck carve footprints in the mind which may be difficult to erase,” said Kruger.

She also said visitors can explore the lovely gardens, visit the tuckshop, bookshop and pre-loved clothing boutiques.

“As a self-sustaining community some of the residents will be selling items they have made or baked to supplement their meagre pensions,” said Kruger.

Refreshments will be sold and people can also hire tables for R100 to sell their wares from 12 pm onwards.
