Case against cops after ‘foiled robbery’ postponed

JOBURG – The case against three Douglasdale police officers and five accomplices was postponed for a formal bail application.

 

The court case against three Douglasdale police officers and their five co-accused in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court was postponed to 16 October for a formal bail application.

The eight accused are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravating circumstances. They are also charged with possession of prohibited firearms (fully automatic firearms) and possession of firearms without a licence, permit or authorisation issued in terms of the Act to possess the firearm(s).

They appeared briefly in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 10 October. The State informed the court that the addresses of the accused have been confirmed and the bail application for all eight accused will be heard from 16 October to 20 October.

The three Douglasdale police officers are Constables Otto Mashele (36), Innocent Mbele (32) and Clement Ngoveni (39).

The other accused are Nkosinathi Masoa (34), Raymond Sibanyoni (35), Nelson Malesa (42), Sphiwe Madonsela (41) and Lethabo Sheshingwani (28).

The eight were arrested after an alleged foiled armed robbery. The State alleges that the accused were on their way to rob a cellphone store in Fourways Mall.
