Major power outage hits Joburg North

JOBURG – The power outage is affecting a large part if the greater Joburg North region.

Residents of areas including Emmarentia, Linden, Northcliff and as far as Hurlingham Manor are currently affected by a major power outage.

According to City Power, “an incomer tripped at Delta Substation’s first, second and third transformers.” Since this is one of City Power’s main substations, this outage is affecting the Roosevelt Park Substation, Rosebank Substation and Parktown Substation, effectively leaving a large part of the Johannesburg North region without power.

This amidst heavy rain and thunderstorms, which the City of Johannesburg warned about earlier this week.

City Power said at the moment, they do not have an estimated time that power will be restored, but technicians are onsite.

Ward 99 councillor, Nicole van Dyk, is currently at Roosevelt Park Substation. She said technicians are also on site but that little can be done until power is restored at Delta Substation.

Delta Substation recently received attention after the first mobile on-site testing to be conducted on high voltage power transformers in South Africa was launched there in June.

MMC for Environmental and Infrastructure Services, Nico de Jager then said: “This type of testing will ensure that downtime is reduced as repairs will be done speedily, ensuring that residents do not spend long periods of time without electricity, especially during the upcoming winter months.”
