Calling all Christian music lovers

ROOSEVELT PARK – The Roosevelt Baptist Church youth will be Rising Up for Christ through their first music concert.

Musicians in the Roosevelt Baptist Church will be performing in and hosting their own music concert.

The concert, Rising Up Party, will take place on 13 October at Roosevelt High School and was mostly organised by the church’s youth.

“Initially we wanted to host a youth event but realised that this excludes people who really want to be there so we opened the event up for ages above youth,” said Kyle Hoedemaker, rhythm guitarist of the church’s youth band.

During an interview with the youth band and some of the organisers, the band admitted they have no name even though they have been playing together for a long time. The debate around the table was to call themselves RBC, an acronym of the church’s name, or The Roots or The Uprises.

The band is clearly so involved in the ministry and making music that a formality like a name means very little to them.

For the concert, both the church’s Sunday worship team and their youth worship team will be performing on the night.

The young organisers will also host Rhema‘s Sunday night live worship team and East Rand rapper Nathan. The night will not be all music, the organisers will also host motivational speaker Dane Smith.

While this is the first big concert the young organisers are planning, they already have another in the pipeline.

“Yeah, we would want to do this more often. Next time we would like to get Paul Baloche in. We’re in talks with him right now,” Hoedemaker said. The young organiser has set the bar high as Baloche is a famous Christian music singer and songwriter. He is most popularly known for his song Open the Eyes of My Heart.

While the event is to raise funds for the church’s music ministry, Hoedemaker said they were more focused on extending the ministry as a whole.
