WATCH: Uber acid attack suspect appears in court

ROODEPOORT – A man suspected of throwing acid at an Uber driver faces charges of attempted murder and robbery.

A 34-year-old suspect has appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’s Court for a bail application on charges of attempted murder and robbery.

This follows the incident of an acid attack on an Uber driver in East Town on 6 August.

According to the driver, Kgomotso Tiro, he picked up a cash passenger from a petrol station on Gordon Road. Upon reaching Milner Avenue in East Town, the suspect threw acid on his face and made off with his vehicle which was recovered later that day.

Tiro sustained injuries to the left side of his face as well as on his neck and hands.

Bail application has been postponed to 5 October. Suspect to remain behind bars.
