New members needed for Elm Park choir

NORTHCLIFF – The Elm Park choir encourages people who love singing to join the choir.

Elm Park Village has a variety of exciting activities for residents to enjoy and the residents want to add more members to their already talented choir.

Elm Park choir musical director Tom Addison said he has been an Elm Park resident for the last five years and the musical director for a year. He loves singing and taking part in musical events. His aim is to encourage more people in the community to join the choir.

“Our choir currently consists of 14 females and five males. I would like to create a balance where there is also an equal amount of men [and women] in the choir,” said Addison. He added that everyone who loves singing is welcome to join the choir.

The choir practices twice a week, in preparation for different performances.

Addison said the next performance they are practising for is the annual Christmas Carols service on 15 December and the choir will be practicing for it from next month. They will perform a range of songs from local and international artists.

“The Elm Park choir is the only choir in the Flower Foundation which consists of about ten villages. We’ve had a few musical events this year. People have come in to play trumpet duets, participate in sing-along events and a lady from Uitenhage will play light classical music in December. The Welsh male voices choir have also performed this year,” said Addison.
