Home for senior citizens is in need of a container to open their White Elephant Store

ROOSEVELT PARK – Gem Homes is constantly looking for innovative ways to raise funds for their organisation.

Gem Homes for Senior Citizens actively creates various ways to raise funds for their home on a regular basis.

The home has a number of exciting events and stores on the property, which also assist in raising funds.

Gem Homes manager, Sven Muller said there are units currently undergoing renovations and they are in need of sponsorship.

“Our home has a book store, charity store and functions which are also open to the public,” he said.”We need a shipping container which we will use to set up a store called the White Elephant Store. In this store, we will be selling bric-a-brac which has been donated.

“The container we are looking for needs to be six or 12 metres and in good condition. If anyone has a container which they are not using, I’ve got a special truck which can move containers and we will come and pick it up,” said Muller.

The idea to get a container came about when the home started to receive a number of donated items from people who already support the home. He added the items are sorted out and put into a Wendy House, whereas a container would be more ideal to store and sell the items.

“We launched an initiative to try and be more self-sufficient and are also in the process of creating other platforms for projects. These include developing market gardening to sell fresh vegetables as well as pallet furniture,” said Muller.

He urged all members in the community and companies who are willing to help raise funds for them and support their various initiatives.
