For Northcliff High School, the first day of spring was nature’s way of saying, ‘let’s go for a swim!’
After nearly 50 years, the school has upgraded its pool. The pool was completed in August but the school left the opening for 1 September – the first day of spring – so swimmers could enjoy a cool water-filled spring day.
After the school’s management cut the ribbon and officially opened the pool, schoolchildren in swimwear and goggles got a chance to take the first cannon ball, dive and flip into the new pool.
The renovation took place over 12 weeks. While 12 weeks is a short period of time, staff members said it felt like forever. The majority of funds which went towards the renovation of the pool was raised by schoolchildren.
Marketing manager for the school, Jacqui Todaro laughed and said one of the reasons it felt much longer is because staff members and schoolchildren had to put up with construction noises.
The big reveal was a surprise to the majority of the schoolchildren even though they spend most of their time at the school.
“Our students don’t really walk by the pool area at the school especially because it isn’t swimming season so when we had the opening, they couldn’t believe what it looked like,” said Todaro.
Youngsters were given a short time to enjoy the pool over first break on spring day, however, once the after school bell rang for the end of the day, they had free reign to enjoy the pool.
