Woman held up at gunpoint by gang of women

AUCKLAND PARK– Suspects rob a women at gun point at Campus Square

A woman was held at gunpoint by three women and a man at Campus Square on 4 September.

The incident took place at the shopping centre which is currently undergoing extensive renovations.

Brixton police spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff said the victim was approached by one of the suspects who pointed a firearm at her. The suspects then instructed her to go to the basement.

“The man was walking in front of the complainant and the three ladies were walking behind her with the firearm pointed at her back. When they arrived at the basement the suspects demanded her cellphone, bank card and jewellery. They searched the victim for other valuables and left,” said Backhoff.

She explained that this is a new modus operandi and members of the public are requested to be more aware of their surroundings. A case of armed robbery has been opened at the Brixton Police Station. The case is still under investigation.

“This is the first time we have come across a scenario like this at Campus Square, especially involving a group of women,” concluded Backhoff.
