House robbery victim in Sophiatown gets stolen TV back

SOPHIATOWN – While the robbers managed to escape arrest, police recover a stolen television.

The Sophiatown Police Station reunited a house robbery victim with his stolen television.

During the early hours of 18 August, a Milner Street couple were allegedly woken by an unknown number of house robbers who had gained access into the property.

The house robbers stole a flat screen television and fled in a silver Toyota Corolla.

A robbery takes place on Milner Street.

Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn, spokesperson for Sophiatown Police Station, confirmed the incident and said Sophiatown police chased the vehicle before they lost control of their car and crashed in Kathrada Park near Newclare.

“After the accident, the suspects got out of the car and ran. When we inspected the car, we found a television,” said De Bruyn.

Later in the day, victim was requested to go to station to identify the television.

While the suspects managed to escape arrest, police fortunately managed to retrieve the television. De Bruyn said the man was happy to have his television back even after the trauma of the robbery.

A case of house robbery is now being investigated by Sophiatown police.
