Florist and designer join forces to uplift local women

MELVILLE– Passionate women encourage residents to get involved in donating to underprivileged women.

A driven florist and a creative designer joined forces since two heads are always better than one. A friendship spanning over 30 years led them to team up by combining their stores.

Auckland Park Florist founder Louise Daneel who has been a florist for six years said her mother and grandmother were also in the same profession. She believes the community she operates in and its surrounding areas are vibrant and diverse. Besides being a florist Louise also collects bras for a non–profit organisation called Zabra, which is a free bra initiative.

Cindy Goldstein and Louise Daneel are a winning team.

“It’s a non–profit which collects bras for underprivileged girls who cannot afford them. I heard about this initiative when the founder of the organisation Jeanette Kruger came into my shop two years ago. She asked me to be a Cup Holder which is a representative who collects and distributes donated bra’s to organisations or women who need them,” said Daneel.

She added the founder of the non–profit is a South African who is based in England and comes into the country three to four times year to distribute the bras she collects to other Cup holders in Johannesburg.

“I encourage people to come drop off brand new or second-hand bras which are in good condition. We will be donating the first collection of bras to Out of The Box Learning Centre and will also donate to other organisations around Joburg in the future,” said Daneel.

Forest Life designer Cindy Goldstein has been a designer for nine years and named her label Destiny. She said she initially worked in retail and later created her own label. Goldstein who recently combined her store with Daneel believes the Zabra initiative is a great idea and hopes people support the cause.

“We definitely have plans to get more involved in the community. We are two women leading independently combined organisations, who are also parents who hope to inspire other women to follow their passion,” said Goldstein.
