Man dies after shooting incident, four suspects in police custody

JAN HOFMEYER – Residents assist police in the arrest of four suspects involved in a shooting.

The Brixton police arrested four suspects for murder after a shooting took place in Jan Hofmeyer.

A case of attempted murder was initially opened but after the victim died in hospital the charge was changed to murder.

Brixton police spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff said a concerned resident contacted the police about the shooting which took place at about 10.15pm on 12 August.

When police arrived on the scene, the victim was taken to hospital by his partner. No ambulance was called to the scene.

“Residents were very helpful with reporting the matter and the information they gave us which led to the suspects’ arrest,” said Backhoff. “They were taken into police custody on 13 August in the evening after being arrested in the same area where the shooting took place.”

The suspects’ court appearance date is yet to be confirmed.
