MUST READ: Acid used during hijacking

MARAISBURG – The woman sustained chemical burns to her face and chest.

A female motorist is recovering at Helen Joseph Hospital after she sustained serious chemical burns during an alleged hijacking in Maraisburg.
According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, the incident took place on 26 July on The Triangle Road.
In a statement, Meiring said ER24 paramedics found the woman not in her car or alongside the road but in a nearby residence.
Meiring said, “The woman explained that she was parked outside the residence where she was hijacked. She said that the alleged hijackers threw a chemical believed to be acid in her face.”
Later a resident noticed the acid burned woman and offered her assistance.

“Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained chemical burn wounds to her face and chest and was in a serious condition.”

The woman was treated at the residence and was provided with advanced life support interventions. After the initial treatment, the woman was transported to Helen Joseph Hospital for further treatment.
