Outrage caused by Nazi flag

NORTHCLIFF – The family of the home have since apologised, however, the South African Jewish Board of Deputies are dealing with the matter.

The Northcliff residents who had a Nazi and a German flag hanging from a flagpole in their garden apologised and gave reasons for the raising of the flags.

According to Gabriella Weber, who lives in the home, the flag was hung on 15 July for a few hours and was taken down the same day after the shooting of an historical film which involved the two flags.

After residents noticed the flags, photographs made their way onto Facebook which sparked outrage especially in the Jewish community.

“We’re not Nazis. We don’t believe in that. My father is an historian and the flags were only up for a few hours for the shooting of a film,” Weber said.

Once the family got wind of the photographing circulating on Facebook, Weber’s sister Liza Maree took to Facebook to set the record straight and apologise.

“[I]t wasn’t the brightest of ideas… Please [accept] our deepest and sincere apologies if we have hurt and offended anybody in that regard,” Maree wrote.

Gabriella has since said the South African Jewish Board of Deputies has issued her father with a letter. He has since met with a lawyer regarding the matter.

“We just want to set the record straight. We are not hateful people,” Weber said.

This is a developing story and details will be published as more information becomes available.
