German School crowdfunding project reaches its goal

PARKTOWN – More than R100 000 has been raised in one week for a former German School teacher.

The crowdfunding project for the former German School teacher whose car was stolen has reached its target.

After Northcliff Melville Times published an article about Myrtle Dittberner’s car being stolen, Thomas Troxler, a German School alumnus, started the Candystick Crowdfunding MoneyBox Project on 15 July to assist the teacher in purchasing a new vehicle.

On 21 July, the project met and surpassed the R100 000 goal by R752. In exactly a week, more than R100 000 was raised mostly by German School alumni.

“Wow, wow, wow! We have reached the target. Thank you so much to everyone who has made this such a massive success,” Troxler wrote on the project’s Facebook page.

He then contacted an ecstatic Dittberner with the good news.

Although the target has been reached, Troxler said he would leave the Moneybox open for a short while.

“The excess funds will go towards paying the Candystick fees (5.5 percent) and potential insurance for the [new] car. So if you still wish to contribute, please do so. I guarantee it will benefit Frau Dittberner.”
