Fun was the order of the day at the Johannesburg School for the Blind in Auckland Park

AUCKLAND PARK – A hotel company surprised a group of children with a jumping castle and various donations.

The day was filled with smiles and fun activities at the Johannesburg School for Blind, Low Vision and Multiple Disability Children when Intercontinental Johannesburg Sandton Towers payed them a visit for Mandela Day.

Staff members spent time with the children of the organisation and engaged in fun activities with Children of Fire kids, who were also present.

Guest relations manager for Intercontinental Johannesburg Sandton Towers, Kathleen Hedges said she initially heard about the organisation as she is a resident in Melville and would often see the children playing when she would drive past.

“As a hotel, we often do CSI initiatives for charity organisations and this time I suggested we do something for the Children of Fire. I also have a special needs child so I understand the challenges they face. We hired a jumping castle for the children, brought food, toys and clothing,” said Hedges.

She believes it is good to relate to people who are in need and to help people throughout the year and not only on Mandela Day.

Seiso Ratswana from Children of Fire said he is happy that the staff came to spend some time with them and brought goodies for everyone to enjoy.

“I really enjoyed the jumping castle and the food at the same time. I hope they come visit us again soon,” said Ratswana.
