Crucial information has not yet been obtained by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) investigators after the alleged rape of a woman on 14th Avenue by men clad in Metro police uniform, spokesperson Moses Dlamini confirmed.
Ipid, the South African police and Metro police are investigating the matter that happened earlier this month.
“The [directorate] is waiting for the family of the victim to indicate when she will be available so that certain crucial information can be obtained in order to take the investigation forward,” Dlamini said.

A family member of the victim took to Facebook, warning female drivers to be vigilant when being pulled over.
In her post, she explained that the victim was allegedly asked to produce her driver’s licence and after following the instruction, one of the men took out a gun and pointed it at her head. Later, she was allegedly frisked at gunpoint and was forced into the bushes near Reddford House, Fairland, where she was also allegedly repeatedly raped.
The area’s Ward (89) councillor, Amelia Bester, said she has been trying to get Metro police to patrol the hotspots in the area in line with their mandate.
“They could have prevented this incident,” she said.
The details of the Metro police investigation into the matter, spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said, have not yet been concluded.
The Florida police station, where the matter is being investigated by the South African police, could not be reached for further comment at this stage.
