Legal counsel withdraws from Pelser murder case

JOBURG – New trial dates given in the murder case of Marthinus Pelser who is accused of killing his 6-month-old son last year.

The Roodepoort Regional Court has set new trial dates in the Marthinus Pelser murder case after Pelser’s legal representative withdrew from the case on 13 July.
Pelser will now be represented by a Legal Aid lawyer, and the contents of the docket have been supplied to the defence.
Pelser appeared briefly before Magistrate Delize Smith in the Roodepoort Regional Court.
The 23-year-old is accused of killing his six-month-old son Deon in June last year. He was arrested following a tip-off from a community member to the Honeydew police.

Prior to his arrest, Pelser had been on the run for almost five days

The new dates set for trial are 21 and 28 September and 4 and 5 October have also been allocated as continuity dates. Pelser remains in custody.
Smith told Pelser that assessors have been arranged as instructed by the previous advocate.
