Shots fired during Westdene hijacking

WESTDENE – A resident was shot during the hijacking.

The Sophiatown Police have confirmed a hijacking and shooting incident in Westdene.

The incident was reported by the Sophiatown Neighbourhood watch on Friday, 7 July. A black Golf GTI with the registration number FC48MGGP was hijacked in Banbury Road.

The Golf is said to have had accident damage. It is unclear whether the accident damage was as a result of the incident or if it existed from a previous crash.

Several shots were fired during the incident by unknown persons, injuring a resident. The suspects’ vehicle – reported as a silver or white Toyota Corolla – was also hit in the process. The condition of the resident is unclear at this stage.

TJ de Bruyn, spokesperson for the Sophiatown Police Station confirmed the incident. He has, however, not yet confirmed whether any suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
