Wits Business School welcomes new interim director

BRAAMFONTEIN – Wits Business School has a new interim director from 3 July

Former Minister of Finance Nhlanhla Nene is the interim director of the Wits Business School (WBS), effective from 3 July. The new head of the business school will be appointed next year.

Once the new head has been appointed, Nene will continue to serve as an honorary professor and a scholar in residence at the WBS. Wits vice–chancellor and principal, Professor Adam Habib said the university is honoured to welcome Nene to lead the WBS.

“His political business acumen and remarkable intellect place him in good stead to lead the WBS as the search for a permanent head commences. However, his leadership advice and insight at this pivotal time in our country’s economic trajectory, will add value to the quality of courses, public lectures, debates and research that we offer,” said Habib.

Nene’s appointment took place after the head of WBS resigned this year. He will also work closely with the university’s team to recruit a new leader for the school who will start next year.

Nene said it gives him great pleasure to join the WBS, which will enable him to share his knowledge, experience and networks. In order to empower and work with young, talented individuals, academics and business leaders.

“This appointment would not have been made possible without the support of the Thebe Investment Corporation who have allowed me the necessary time and space to undertake this important task,” said Nene.

Chairman of Thebe Investment Corporation, Vusi Khanyile said he wishes Nene well in his new endeavour and assures him and Wits of their company’s support through this process.

“We are indeed proud of this partnership that paves the way for future collaboration with the WBS and Wits University,” said Khanyile.
