Taxi driver freed from vehicle by jaws of life

MELVILLE – While the taxi driver sustained moderate injuries in an accident, his legs were trapped in his vehicle.

A taxi driver was trapped in his vehicle after he T-boned a light motor vehicle on Main Road in Melville at the Spar intersection on the morning of 6 June.
According to Nick Dollman, Netcare 911 spokesperson, the collision took place just after 6am.

Dollman said when paramedics arrived on the scene, they found that the taxi driver had sustained moderate injuries but his legs were trapped inside the taxi.
Advanced Life Support paramedics administered analgesic medication to control his pain while the Netcare 911 Rescue Unit and City of Johannesburg fire department used the jaws of life to free the man.
“He was carefully removed from the taxi and transported by ambulance to a hospital for further assessment and care,” Dollman said.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained no injuries.
