Linden Swimming pool is finally at its optimum

LINDEN – Ward 99 councillor, Nicole van Dyk says Linden Swimming pool is at its optimum temperature, but still faces its challenges.

Community members can enjoy a heated pool during winter as Linden swimming pool is back to its optimum temperature.

The Northcliff Melville Times had previously reported that residents were left frustrated as they could not use the pool due to its drop in temperature after the third boiler had broken.

Ward 99 councillor Nicole van Dyk, has said that the boilers had gone live on 8 May and within the first few days, the temperature began to build.

She had previously expressed that one of the pool’s challenges was that the boilers had not been serviced properly over the past few years. Van Dyk said the battle to maintain them continues.

“The team approved to repair the boilers are still not on the Johannesburg Property Company’s approved list.”

She said she is now engaging with all the MMCs to ensure the Johannesburg Property Company addresses the matter, as the budget for maintenance lies with them. “Negotiations need to happen as soon as possible to ensure we don’t face this unnecessary issue again.”

On 23 May, the pool temperature was at an inviting 25 degrees Celsius for winter swimmers to enjoy. It is open to everyone at a cost R10.50 for adults and R5.50 for children.

Van Dyk said there are no plans to develop the pool further. “The new financial year starts on 1 July, so money could still be assigned, however, Linden swimming pool is a prime facility and it’s very likely money will be spent on pools such as Windsor, who are far more in need of funding.”
