Children from Northcliff Pre-Primary School donated R1 000 to the Tekkie Tax Campaign.
Tekkie Tax Day falls on 26 May and current Mrs Johannesburg 2016, Jaci Tibbit, was there to accept the wonderful donation. She explained that the campaign, among many initiatives, is aimed at helping underprivileged children get an education.

“The school was so awesome they purchased 100 stickers at a cost of R10 each,” said Tibbit. Along with the money, the children also donated old takkies and shoes which will be giving to those who do not have much. The school’s principal, Jane Bingham, said it is important for children to develop empathy for others at this young age.

“They need to know that there are privileged people in the world and there also those who are no. This is a way to create a sense of empathy towards people who are underprivileged which is very important,” expressed Bigham, adding children need to be made aware that they do not necessarily need all these materialistic things as there are many who might not even have a plate of food.
On the day the children were all extremely excited to have their stickers on and to know that the little bit they did, was going to make someone else know that are others out there who care, even if it’s from a distance. Tibbit concluded giving back does not only mean to give money, as one can give of their time and items of clothing they do not wear anymore.
