The Cell C Day of Races returns

Runners get ready to participate in the unique Cell C Day of Races set to be a runner's dream.

Runners, walkers and fitness enthusiasts will find their fit at the second annual Cell C Day of Races at Roosevelt High School.

The theme of the event on 11 June is ‘find your fit’ and entrants can choose between four exciting start waves – Pretty Fast; Sole Mates (done in pairs); Young, Fast and Free; along with Anything Goes. The fifth wave, the Elite Race, is for invited athletes only. Although each wave is a source of excitement, the Elite Race is a wave not to be missed.

Last year Mbongeni Ngxazoza was the runner to beat in the men’s Elite Race. Taking the lead at the 2km mark, Ngxazoza completed the 5km race in a lightning fast time of 0:13:59.

“The course was just right,” said a very happy Ngxazoza.

“I used to run 5km on the track, but now my focus is on marathon and half marathon distances. I was very impressed with the organisation of the Cell C Day of Races. It was definitely on par with the big international races that I’ve competed in.”

Lebogang Phalula’s valiant effort secured her the top spot on the podium in the women’s Elite Race last year. “I really enjoyed the race,” said Phalula.

“The benefit of a 5km race is that it helps us ladies improve our speed. I wish that there were more 5km races that we could compete in.”
