Roosevelt Park resident of 60 years turns 100

ROOSEVELT PARK – Family and friends come together to celebrate a special family member's birthday.

Maria de Villiers, also fondly known as Joey to her friends and family, reached a special milestone when she turned 100 years old.

The memorable occasion was hosted at Park Care Centre in Parktown on 7 May, where she is a resident.

Margaret de Villiers, Maria’s daughter-in-law, said the occasion was attended by close friends and family who were delighted to celebrate together. Before being moving to the Park Care Centre, Maria was a resident of Roosevelt Park for over 60 years.

“Joey has three children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The afternoon was spent enjoying tea with snacks and a homemade cake that I baked myself. The cake was shaped as the number 100 and each letter had a different flavour, which included chocolate, coffee and carrot. We also shared a toast with a glass of champagne,” said Margaret.

She added that she has been part of the birthday girl’s family for 44 years. Margaret described her mother-in-law as a very outgoing person, who is full of fun, enjoys playing bowls and loves her grandchildren.

Maria said she could not believe that she reached the age of 100 because no other family member had reached this age. “I was delighted to have my friends and family present to celebrate my birthday with me,” concluded Maria.
