Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg is proud of the success of three of its learners who will represent the country at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles.
Siblings Michael, Jenna and Andreas Alderton hope to get sponsorship to compete in the championships that will take place in the United States on June 30 to 9 July.
To qualify for this great opportunity, the three performed at the National Championships of the Performing Arts in March where they represented Gauteng in the acting category.
Between the three of them they managed to score a total of 14 medals.
This is the second time that sister Jenna received national colours. She had competed at the 2014 Championships when she was only eight years and hopes to follow in Charlize Theron’s footsteps one day. Michael, however prefers the stage. At the championships, the performers did dramatic monologues, productions along with contemporary pieces.
The performing siblings all shared the sentiment that though acting was a challenge, it was also fun to portray various roles along with being able to interact with other like minds.
Andreas’ favourite role to date has been his portrayal of Captain Hook in Peter Pan. “But Dennis the Menace comes in at a close second,” he shared.
Michael said at the national championships, he enjoyed his monologue from Roald Dahl’s The Grinch.
“It was a real challenge, not in terms of acting, but in terms of costume and makeup,” said Michael.
The three concluded that they are extremely honoured and excited to have been chosen for the SA team.
“We hope that one of us at least gets to sponsored to compete at the competition in LA,” they said.
