UPDATE: Nothing sinister about these dolls

MELVILLE – The mysterious Melville Koppies Nature Reserve dolls had been there for a year.

The saga of the Melville Koppies Nature Reserve’s two mysterious dolls has ended with no mystery or intrigue apart from the fact they were just discarded dolls.

A Facebook post on 23 April caused a bit of a stir after the author asked what the presence of the dolls could mean.

People speculated that they could have been voodoo dolls or some form of witchcraft. A sentiment shared was that the dolls did seem somewhat creepy.

The two dolls lay arm in arm.

Chairperson of the Melville Koppies management committee, Wendy Carstens, said the dolls had been at the Koppies for the better part of a year and she had just not got around to moving them as she was busy with the upkeep of the reserve.
Carstens jokingly added that people just wanted a distraction from the country’s current junk status.

“The Koppies has beautiful flowers and that is something worth talking about,” she said.

The dolls have since been thrown away, and whether or not they will end up elsewhere and cause another mystery, nobody knows.
