This unfortunate accident took place on 7 April whereafter he was treated at Randburg SPCA and ultimately had to have an expensive surgery to save his broken hip.

An appeal was made to the community to come on board to help with the financial burden of approximately R4 000 to cover the surgery and more for recovery costs.

The large scar has been stitched up and will take about three months to properly heal.

Blackie and Brownie are well-known in Melville as the precious dogs of their furdad, Jonathan Plaatjies.

Blackie has returned from the vet and is happy to be reunited with his brother Brownie. Although, neither like being inside the kennel, when the two are together, their spirits soar through the ceiling.

Local community members truly put their money where their hearts are and managed to raise about half of the amount through transfers into the bank account.

The good news kept on flowing when two good Samaritans visited Randburg SPCA on 18 April.

A kind woman donated a whopping R5 000 to Blackie, and not even an hour later, a man also arrived with a donation of R2 500.

“A huge thank you goes out to the community, we are blown away by the kindness that has been bestowed on Blackie, it makes our jobs easier to be surrounded by such a great community,” said committee member Charmaine Rowlands.

The future of both dogs is of great importance to Randburg SPCA. The way forward regarding his dogs will be further discussed with Plaatjies as soon as possible.
