Suspects bust red-handed for attempted car theft in Emmarentia

EMMERENTIA – Police members save the day when they stop car thieves in their tracks at the Emmerentia Botanical Gardens.

Three suspects were arrested for the attempted theft of a motor vehicle and possession of car breaking implements at Emmerentia Botanical Gardens.

The incident took place on 11 April at about 3 pm.

Parkview Police Station spokesperson Captain Tinswalo Sibeko explained that the attempted theft happened while the Parkview police crime prevention members were patrolling and conducting their crime prevention duties.

“The police members saw three men inside a car that was parked and they stopped their car to conduct an investigation. It was discovered that the three suspects damaged the ignition of the car. The door lock was tampered with and neither one of the suspects was the owner of the car. All three suspects were searched and car-breaking devices were found in their possession,” explained Sibeko.

She added that the security guard at Emmerentia Botanical Gardens managed to trace the owner of the vehicle, who confirmed that his car was locked and the windows were properly closed. He also confirmed that he did not know the suspects. The suspects were arrested by constables Israel Mashaba and Nicholas Pollard.

“All three suspects will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon, to face charges of attempted theft of a motor vehicle and possession of car breaking devices,” said Sibeko.

Parkview Police Station Commander Colonel Theledi Zacharia Gopane said he would like to thank Constable Mashaba and Constable Pollard for their hard work and dedication to ensure that the community is safe.
