Main entrance at Charlotte Maxeke is now open to the public

PARKTOWN – Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital opens its main entrance on Level 5.

Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital’s main entrance is now open for use to the public.

A statement released by the National Department of Health stated that the hospital management had resolved to open the main entrance on Level 5 for use by the public and staff from 4 April.

Buses and taxis will drop off the public in Hospital Street, however, no stationary vehicles will be allowed in the area.

Following the collapse of the roof at the hospital, which left five injured, intense investigations were undertaken by the engineers and inspectors from the Department of Labour and the Department of Infrastructure and Development. Temporary remedial interventions were undertaken to ensure that the area is safe and secure.

The statement went on to add that patients would move back to Area 156 (Counter A) for registration and admission.

Directions and signs would be put up to indicate how to access clinical services, and queue marshals and security officers would be on hand to assist.

It concluded that porters would be placed on Hospital Street to assist patients who require a wheelchair.

The hospital apologized for the inconvenience caused.
