Update: Wesbank closer to completing solar panel project
FAIRLAND – The Wesbank head office is working hard to complete the installation of solar panels in order to reach their five star green status.
The WesBank and First National Bank group have been hard at work, constructing hundreds of solar panels and other exciting features in their parking lot at the WesBank head office in Fairland.
The organisations’ goal is to get a fifth green star from the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA).
WesBank head of brand and communication Rudolf Mahoney said the Fairland solar panel project is about 30 per cent complete.
“As per project practices, we need to make sure that we follow the environmental, waste, health and safety management [rules], which are also part of the programme. Waste management on site is crucial as our Wesbank building is ISO 14001 certified and all waste disposal and recycling initiatives are carried out,” said Mahoney.
“So far, 258 parking bays have been fitted with solar panels. The campus property management team are continuously engaged in ensuring that the principles of greening are achieved and that practices such as energy efficiency, water management and waste management are carried out. After finalising the installation of the solar panels we would have reached our five-star green status,” said Mahoney.
He said other planned projects include:
- Additional boreholes
- Lights retrofitting
- Separation of waste from source
- Water efficiency and alternative source
- Grey water harvesting
- Decommissioning heating elements on diffusers.
