MUST READ: Thieves hit two electronics stores at Cresta Shopping Centre

CRESTA – A group of men forcefully gained entry into electronic stores and stole selected items.

A burglary took place at Cresta Shopping Centre when a group of men broke into two computer and electronics stores.
The burglary took place in the evening on 26 March and was witnessed by some people in the mall.

Gerhard Harman who was in the mall at the time of the incident, said he was in the centre at about 9pm.

He was standing at an ATM when he witnessed a group of men attempting to break into a store.

“I was at the ATM when I heard loud banging noises coming from Coricraft across from the FNB bank,” said Harman. “Two other ladies who were also at the ATM and I started running away from the group of men, fearing for our lives. On my way out of the mall, I was informed by the security that the men were still at large on the premises. As I was driving out I spotted a Linden police vehicle. I alerted them that there was a situation at the mall and they informed me that they were on their way there.”

Linden police spokesperson Captain Walter Spencer said the burglary took place at Incredible Connection and at Mega Graphix.

A group of four to five men broke into the store and stole various items.

Two cases of business burglary were opened at the Linden Police Station and are still under investigation.
The centre’s management said it was working closely with a security company and the police to investigate the burglary.

The centre’s general manager Virginia Bester said the suspects made off with merchandise in a grey Honda and Toyota Etios.

“We are appealing to anyone with information on their [suspects] whereabouts to please assist us in finding them,” said Bester. “At this stage, it is unclear what the value of the stolen merchandise amounts to. Independent security companies and the [police] responded to the alarms and they have since taken witness accounts, investigated the scene, obtained camera footage and we are hoping for a speedy resolve following their investigation.”

She added that the centre was doing everything that they could to bring the suspects to justice.

“Cresta Shopping Centre has always been passionate about making sure our customers are able to shop in a pleasant, safe and secure environment,” concluded Bester.
