Alternative entrances for patients, visitors and staff to Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital

PARKTOWN – Department of Health issues statement advising of alternate entrances to access Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.

The Department of Health issued a statement advising alternative entrances patrons can use to enter the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, after the roof collapsed on 2 March, leaving five injured.

In the statement, the Department of Health said the main entrance, on Hospital Street, was closed and patients, visitors and staff were advised to use Gate 7 located on Jubilee Road, which public transport would also make use of.

Gate 6, which is the emergency entrance, would be used as a drop-off point for very sick patients or patients with disabilities. Portering services are also available at the entrance.

The statement explained that security officers at the entrances will direct patients on how to access services, and added that admissions and medical repeats should report to casualty, where queue marshals will assist patients with directions.

The Customer Care Unit is temporarily placed in area 364 (Block 3–Level 6).

The statement ended with an appeal to all, to practice patience and safety.
