UPDATE: Wits Medical School declared safe

BRAAMFONTEIN – Wits Medical School evacuated students and staff after smoke was detected in the building on 3 March.

BRAAMFONTEIN – Following a thorough evaluation of the building, the City of Joburg’s Emergency Medical Services has declared that the Wits Medical School is safe and students and staff have been allowed to return to the building.

Early indications are that the smoke may have been caused by an electrical fault.

Electricians were on site and further investigations are underway.

“We thank all staff and students for their cooperation today and we apologise for any inconvenience caused,” said the school in a statement.
