VICTORY PARK – A woman was attacked in a road rage incident on 1 March, after bumping a car in front of her, in spite of the fact that the vehicle was not damaged.
Candice Wagener was on her way to work when the incident occurred after 7am on the corner of Barry Hertzog Drive and Victory Road.
Wagener said the driver of the vehicle immediately stepped out of the car, that had four other passengers.
She could see that the man was upset after she explained to him that his vehicle had not been damaged.
“According to the driver I responded in a disrespectful way and that is when the argument started. The driver came close to my face and I pleaded with him not to invade my personal space, which led to him pushing me against the car and slapping me. A passenger from his vehicle then got involved. During the assault, I attempted to document the incident, but he was trying to prevent this,” said Wagener.
During her ordeal, she was also allegedly held by the neck and strangled by the driver when she tried to retaliate.
The passenger eventually intervened and stopped him from strangling her further. In spite of the aggressive incident, Wagener managed to take photographs of the vehicle’s registration number.
“The driver made reference to my image and referred to me as a man when I questioned him [about] assaulting a woman. I managed to drive to work and was later accompanied by a colleague to open a case at the Parkview Police Station. My injuries included being kicked, slapped in the face, scratched and strangled. I opened a case of assault and plan to lay further charges,” explained Wagener.
Wagener says she is happy with how the investigation is being handled by the Parkview Police Station.
Meanwhile, Parkview police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said that a case of common assault has been opened at the station.
An investigation is being conducted and no one has been arrested yet.
