Dead baby found in rubbish pile

WESTBURY – Sophiatown police have urged the public to come forward with information.

 

Police were called to Kretzschmar Street in Westbury at 9.30am on 16 January after a witness said the body of a baby had been found in a pile of rubbish.

Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn said, “According to the witness, Pikitup had come to [collect] rubbish when they found the body.”

When police arrived they found the body of an unknown baby girl, who seemed to have been burnt. The baby’s age is unknown at this stage.

“No one has been arrested in connection with the incident. An inquest docket has been opened.”

De Bruyn appealed to the public to come forward with any information that can help police with their investigation.
