A hopeful year for Grade 1s

SOPHIATOWN – At Laerskool Generaal Christiaan De Wet Primary School, two sets of twins were welcomed to their first year at primary school.

It seems that a good year lies ahead for Laerskool Generaal Christiaan De Wet Primary School’s Grade 1 teachers Izette Greyling, Marthie Krynauw and Jillian Snyman.

Greyling, who is also the head of Grade 1, said after 27 years at the school she is excited to see the Grade 1s grow.

Greagan Oor (6) said when he grows up he will be a policeman. Oor said that it is a good job to have, one filled with action.

His classmate Jesse Maina (7) is also interested in a future career in law enforcement.

“I want to become a detective. They follow clues and catch criminals,” Maina said.

The teachers will not only have their hands full with aspiring policemen but two sets of twins as well. Marcelino and Valentino Marillier and Shekinah and Shiloh Martin will most likely keep their teachers guessing for a while longer.

Krynauw, however, said that the twins’ distinct personalities easily set them apart.

The parallel medium school in Sophiatown welcomed one Afrikaans and two English Grade 1 classes this year with a total of 110 Grade 1s.
