1 dead and 4 in intensive care after Westbury shooting

WESTBURY – One person was left dead and four were seriously injured after a Westbury shooting.

Officers from the Sophiatown Police Station attended to the shooting that took place on 11 December at the corner of Kretzmar and Florida streets. Lieutenant Colonel Julia Claassen said that, upon arrival, officers were informed that the five victims were shot and had already been taken to hospital.

When the police followed up on the state of the five victims, they learned that one of them had died and the other four were in a critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Claassen explained that the motive for the shootings is unknown. The station is now investigating a murder case and four attempted murders.
