‘Mysterious’ captain in R1.2 million bust to be investigated

BRAAMFONTEIN – The Provincial Commissioner will investigate South African Police captain who 'interrupted' the R1.2 million drug bust.

After a R1.2 million drug bust in Braamfontein last week, MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun, notified Police Service Commissioner of Gauteng Major General Deliwe Suzan de Lange about alleged interference in the case by a high-ranking South African Police captain.

During the gathering of the evidence, Sun was informed that a high-ranking South African Police captain ‘mysteriously arrived and demanded the return of her suspect’.

De Lange, has ordered an investigation into the matter. Spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters confirmed the allegation of an officer interrupting the process of arrest. “It cannot be taken lightly. Any wrongdoing on the part of our members will be dealt with accordingly,” she said.

Less than a week after its relaunch, the Metro police K9 Narcotics Tactical Unit discovered 56.28 kg of marijuana in Jorissen Street. Sun said Metro police officer, Sergeant RS Zwane received information about a large quantity of marijuana being off-loaded there.

According to Hillbrow South African Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, it was the second drug bust in the area that week. “A South African Police officer arrested two suspects and the investigating officer was led to the second bust. The owner of the room is one of the suspects,” he said.

This suspect is believed to be the main supplier of the area.

Sun said there was no one in the room when the drugs were found, but the occupant who leased the room from the suspect was later brought to the room. A Metro police officer recognised the tenant as a suspect he had arrested in February for a similar offence, Sun said.
