WARNING: Corriemore reservoir running low

NORTHCLIFF - Johannesburg Water said it is due to the demand for water exceeding the supply.

Johannesburg Water (JW) warned that the Corrimore Reservoir that feeds Northcliff, Fairlands, Blackheath, and Berario is running dangerously low.

Earlier this month, residents of these areas faced major water outages.

The entity’s spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, said the Corriemore’s bulk supply from Rand Water ran dry, causing a major challenge in restoring the reservoir.

On 22 November Chuene said the reservoir is running low again due to consumption exceeding supply.

“We advise residents to reduce consumption to avoid serious water shortages,” she said.

Remember, level-2 water restrictions mean:

  •  You can not water and irrigate your garden between 6am and 6pm every day
  •  Only hand-held hosepipes, a bucket or watering cans are allowed outside these hours
  •  Swimming pools can not be filled with municipal water
  •  You can not use hosepipes to wash your car or paved area.

The entity encourages residents to not leave taps dripping, take shallow baths and use bathwater or grey-water to water their garden.

“We urge consumers to remain active partners in reducing the amount of water used in the City of Johannesburg, and to report any form of vandalism and theft of water infrastructure to 0800 00 25 87.

“Residents are encouraged to subscribe on our website, to our SMS notification service for alerts on planned or unplanned service interruptions,” Chuene added.
