Linden community in good hands

LINDEN – A new station commander has been appointed at the Linden Police Station who aims to implement the strategies and objectives of the national development plan.

Colonel Ahmed Musthan is the Linden Police Station’s commander after being the assistant station commander for the past six months.
He was previously the head of visible policing for 14 years.
Musthan said the biggest challenges he experienced as the head of visible policing was dealing with a diverse community who all have different needs and cultural differences. He believes it is important to have a good understanding of the cultural diversity in our country and be sensitive to their different needs.
In his current position, he has a clear vision in mind moving forward. “Our objectives are clear… we follow the strategies and objectives of the national development plan. We have adopted these strategies and objectives into the police strategic plan, which has long- and short-term objectives, including the annual operational plans.
“All these plans are directed at creating a safe and secure environment for all inhabitants in South Africa, in order to increase economic growth within our country by encouraging foreign investment.” Musthan added that he believes when a country is safe, foreigners are more inclined to invest in it.

During the festive season, he aims to make sure that the crime rate from the Linden community is at an all-time low.
He issued the following festive season tips:

  •  Avoid drinking and driving
  • Do not leave objects in the open that will attract criminals
  • It is not safe to pick up hitchhikers who are unknown to you and may put you in a vulnerable situation
  •  Alert your security company when you going away on holiday. If possible, get a house-sitter while you are away
  •  Be extra vigilant and alert during the festive season. During this period criminals tend to increase their activities
  •  Be a law-abiding citizen and follow all the rules of law-enforcement personnel.

” I want everyone to feel safe and secure during the festive season with the least amount of casualties. I encourage the community to report any crime-related incidents, giving accurate details of suspects,” concluded Musthan.
